A bit of fuss, a walk, some water and some food,
In return you give me love and a nice constant mood,
You protect me, you’re fearless, so brave, so bold,
Warm my feet up in bed when the nights turn cold,
Then that ice-cold nose wakes me up every morning,
But Please! No tongues - I’m only yawning!
The many hours and hours we’ve walked this land,
Side by side, man’s best friend - your lead in my hand,
You make me happy, you sometimes make me cross,
Sometimes I have to wonder which one of us is boss!
My constant companion for a decade and more,
You’ve seen me cry, you’ve seen me laugh,
You’ve heard me snore,
Eager to please, you’ve chased everything I’ve thrown,
A ball, a stick, your toys, the odd mangy old bone,
And now I sit and wonder with your head upon my knee,
If we could start over would you still choose me?
